NRDC joins Henry’s family and friends in mourning his passing and celebrating his extraordinary life. Henry changed Chicago and put NRDC on the map in the Midwest. Henry launched NRDC’s advocacy work in the Midwest, where he fought against big polluters, from coal plants to the Koch brothers; he drove the protection of iconic waterways from the Chicago River to the Great Lakes. Henry was generous, devoting his time, energy and powerful intellect to elevate others: whether overburdened communities or promising young colleagues.
To honor Henry’s legacy, we have created the Henry L. Henderson Fund for Environmental Protection. Your gift in Henry’s honor will be used to advance the work that he began at NRDC and, specifically, his emphasis on urban environmental pollution. The Henderson Fund will be used to help train and educate advocates to improve urban environmental equity, especially in communities that have borne the disproportionate burden of industrial pollution.
