For decades, activists have focused on revitalizing the L.A. River and expanding much-needed open space for the one million Angelenos who live within walking distance of the urban waterway.
Unfortunately, Casitas Lofts — a proposed luxury housing development, that does nothing to help with California’s affordable housing crisis — threatens all the progress made to restore this critical greenspace. This project would block access to open space along the River that the local community has long fought for.
And the development would also increase housing costs on existing residents in the neighborhood and dramatically increase traffic and auto pollution in the surrounding Glassell Park and Atwater Village neighborhoods.
As the first proposed development of this scale along the river, Casitas Lofts would set a dangerous precedent for future riverfront development and public access to nature.
Tell L.A. city officials to reject the Casitas Lofts project and ensure an equitable and sustainable future for the L.A. River.
