Nearly 5.5 million Californians live within one mile of a polluting oil or gas well. And these communities already face an increased risk of asthma, premature births, high-risk pregnancies, cancer, and other health problems.
And it now appears that some of the air pollution assailing them may also be putting them at greater risk of death from COVID-19.
This is just one more example of how the oil industry disproportionately harms our most vulnerable communities. Something must be done.
Thankfully, the California State Senate is considering a critical bill — AB 345 — that would require state regulators to keep oil and gas production facilities away from homes, schools, day care centers, hospitals, and other sensitive areas.
We need thousands of Californians from across the state to show state senators that we’re counting on them to prioritize this critical bill now that they’re back in session.
Oil operations don’t belong near our homes, hospitals, and schools — tell your state senator to support AB 345!
