Protect our Coasts and Stop Trump’s Offshore Drilling Assault

As the world grapples with COVID-19, the struggles of frontline communities and workers remind us of the price we pay when we fail to take swift action to prevent disasters.

Ten years ago, the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, killing eleven workers, dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, and harming marine life and coastal communities. It was the worst environmental disaster in American history, and it could have been avoided.

Today, the Trump administration is pushing to open nearly every inch of America’s coasts to risky offshore oil and gas drilling. NRDC and partners went to court and succeeded in delaying the administration’s plan, but it’s a temporary pause. Trump and Interior Secretary David Bernhardt have already appealed that ruling and we expect them to continue fighting for as long as they can.

While NRDC wages this fight in court, you can help by telling Trump and Bernhardt: It’s time to trash your wildly unpopular and risky offshore drilling plan once and for all.

On this 10 year memorial of the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe, it’s more important than ever to transition to clean energy, and STOP selling out our oceans and coastal communities to the oil industry. Expanding offshore drilling takes us in the wrong direction.

BP’s Deepwater Horizon rig exploded 10 years ago in the Gulf of Mexico. For our oceans, communities, and climate, it’s long past time to STOP offshore oil and gas drilling in our oceans.

Tell President Trump and Interior Secretary David Bernhardt not to expand dangerous and dirty offshore drilling along America’s coasts and help move us to a 100% clean energy economy.
