COVID-19 Relief is Needed Now

People are suffering in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Congress is working on the next round of economic relief legislation.

We need to make sure they deliver aid where it’s most urgently needed. Congress MUST continue prioritizing immediate relief for marginalized communities and healthcare workers, along with the families, workers, and small businesses hit the hardest by this crisis.

They must support state governments providing local relief efforts, and protect households from being cut off from water, electricity, and gas service during the pandemic. They must increase emergency food assistance to those in need. And they must begin planning for a longer-term economic revival in America that prioritizes equity, justice, public health, clean energy, and climate action.

Call on Congress to deliver urgent aid to vulnerable and marginalized communities, and to protect people — not corporations — from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 crisis.

Dear lawmakers:

I write to urge Congress to pass another urgent COVID-19 economic relief package that protects public health and ensures economic security in the face of the widening coronavirus pandemic.

I believe that this next round of relief funding must do the following:

* Provide food, basic income, and housing for the most vulnerable by expanding and extending food assistance; expanding and extending unemployment assistance and broader worker supports around paid leave; and investing in public housing.
* Expand support for state and local budgets to keep essential state programs and agencies afloat. Now is not the time for big state budget cuts.
* Protect vulnerable communities from having water and energy utility services cut off during this crisis.
* Expand funding for the aid programs for small businesses, including those in one of the fastest-growing sectors: clean energy.
* Avoid blank check bailouts to the fossil fuel industry and other polluting industries that harm public health and worsen climate change.

Furthermore, Congress must begin thinking about long-term economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. That means building a just, equitable economy that works for ALL people, prioritizing sustainable infrastructure, and providing the clean energy jobs of the future that will move us to a 100% clean energy economy.
