The Army Corps’ decision to reject the disastrous Pebble Mine project is a promising victory in the fight to save Alaska’s Bristol Bay – but it’s a temporary one.

This proposed open-pit gold and copper mega-mine would produce 10 billion tons of mining waste that would threaten the Indigenous People and ecosystems that depend on the bay’s abundant wildlife, and it would exacerbate our climate crisis by emitting millions of tons of greenhouse gases.

We need a permanent solution. Tell the EPA to veto the Pebble Mine project once and for all and save Bristol Bay.

Dear EPA officials:

The Army Corps of Engineers rejected the Pebble Mine project, noting that that the proposed open-pit gold and copper mega-mine poses "unavoidable adverse impacts" to the water and marine life of Alaska's Bristol Bay.

The Army Corps' decision is a promising victory in the fight to save Bristol Bay -- but it's a temporary one. Stakeholders in the project will push for a new plan that addresses the Army Corps' concerns.

The Yup'ik, Dena'ina, and Alutiiq Tribes have relied on Bristol Bay's world-renowned salmon fishery for generations, and they have been forced to spend decades leading the fight to shut down the Pebble Mine project so that it does not destroy their economic lifeline and land.

The watershed supplies half the world's sockeye salmon, and the fishery supports 14,000 jobs and generates $1.5 billion annually.

The people and wildlife of Bristol Bay deserve a permanent solution, so I'm calling on the EPA to veto this project once and for all.
