On his first day in office, President Biden issued an executive order halting oil and gas leasing in Alaska’s pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — a critical first step to reversing the damage former President Trump wreaked on this pristine wildland, sacred to the Gwich’in and other Indigenous People, the Refuge’s imperiled wildlife, and our climate.
This is a major victory for our environment and the Gwich’in people who depend on the Refuge for survival — but the moratorium is temporary. President Biden has promised to permanently protect the Arctic Refuge, and NRDC is already fighting in federal court to reverse Trump’s assault on the Arctic Refuge. But we need your help to ensure that Biden fulfills his promise. Please urge President Biden and his Interior Department to cancel all drilling leases and work with Congress to put the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge permanently off-limits to oil and gas drilling.
