Help Save Endangered Orcas

There are only 75 Southern Resident orcas left in the wild, and their population continues to decline due in large part to the decimation of their primary source of food: Chinook salmon.

And these critically endangered orcas are not the only ones harmed by salmon declines. Northwest Tribes that depend on healthy salmon populations for their livelihood and well-being should not be forced to shoulder the economic costs and cultural losses due to disappearing salmon runs.

This has never been more true as Native American communities disproportionately suffer the harsh economic disruption and health impacts caused by COVID-19.

Tell your members of Congress to help save endangered orcas, restore wild salmon populations, and honor commitments to Northwest Tribes who depend on salmon.

Dear Member of Congress:

As your constituent, I ask for your urgent help and leadership to restore endangered Columbia River Basin salmon, protect imperiled Southern Resident orcas from extinction, and honor commitments to Northwest Tribes.

Right now there are only 75 of these critically endangered orcas left, due mainly to the decimation of their primary source of food: Chinook salmon.

And the orcas are not the only ones harmed by salmon declines. Northwest Tribes that depend on healthy salmon populations for their livelihood and well-being should not be forced to shoulder the economic costs and cultural losses due to disappearing salmon runs.

Pacific Northwest governors recently announced a new initiative to help recover fish populations in the Columbia River Basin. But now we need you to take action as well.

Please use your active leadership to support the governors' and Tribes' initiative to develop comprehensive policies that:

* Restore abundant salmon populations in the Columbia River Basin by removing four dams on the lower Snake River that jeopardize the future survival of these fish
* Invest in infrastructure upgrades for impacted farming communities
* Honor the Treaties and protect Northwest Native American's needs and way of life
* Sustain a reliable, affordable, and clean power system for the Pacific Northwest

Please use your leadership to develop an investment package that restores the Columbia River's largest tributary, the Snake River, and its endangered salmon populations, honors the Tribes, and strengthens our clean energy economy.
