Gray wolves are facing new threats to their survival in the Northern Rockies. They are being strangled by snares, run-down by ATVs, gunned down from helicopters, baited, trapped and maimed before being shot, and even killed in dens alongside their pups.

Dear Secretary Haaland:

I'm writing to urge you to immediately restore protections under the Endangered Species Act to gray wolves in the Northern Rockies.

Idaho and Montana have passed legislation that drastically alters their approach to wolf management. Hunters, trappers, and private contractors in Idaho are now permitted to kill up to 90% of the state's wolves using new — and highly barbaric — methods of hunting.

And in Montana, new rules will allow expanded trapping seasons, baits, snares, night hunting and a host of other tools to cut down the state wolf population by as much as  85%. This is not management. It is eradication.

The gray wolf is an irreplaceable keystone species that maintains and restores ecological integrity that is crucial to achieving the administration's 30x30 conservation goals. This species also holds significant value to Tribes who have the right to be consulted over wolf management decisions.

A century ago, our nation allowed the kinds of practices that we're now seeing in Idaho and Montana, and wolves were nearly hunted to extinction.

Without immediate federal protections, the region's wolves will soon lose decades of progress toward recovery.

Please act now and restore Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in the Northern Rockies and help save this nationally beloved species before it's too late.
