Up to 19 billion pounds of plastic waste are dumped into the world's oceans every year.
These plastics are polluting our oceans, threatening our health and climate, and harming and even killing sea otters, sea lions, sea turtles, whales, dolphins, seabirds, and other marine life.
But the California State Legislature is considering important pieces of legislation that would require plastic bottles sold in the state to contain a minimum amount of recycled content, reduce the number of single-use food containers, packaging, and products sold in California, and require that at least 75% of the remaining items be composted or recycled.
And the legislation would mandate that all single-use packaging and products in the state be recyclable or compostable by 2030.
