Honolulu is already feeling the effects of climate change firsthand: from stronger storms and more active hurricane seasons, to dangerous flooding, rising sea levels, and struggling coral reefs.
But here's the good news: the Honolulu City Council is considering a landmark bill aimed at addressing climate change in a very important way.
Bill 25 requires that all new single-family homes become much more energy efficient, saving residents money every month. It requires solar water heaters instead of outmoded water heaters powered by dirty fossil fuels. And a strong Bill 25 will require homes to be solar-ready and EV-ready — so that residents can easily install solar panels and charge clean, electric vehicles, harnessing the power of the sun.
This legislation would help reduce harmful carbon pollution, improve air quality, and make Honolulu a healthier, more economically vibrant city for future generations.
