President Obama placed a landmark, near-total ban on the U.S. ivory trade — one of the largest ivory markets in the world — in 2016. But with President Trump and his anti-wildlife Congress now at the helm, elephant protections are in jeopardy of becoming another casualty of the Trump administration.
Just a few months ago, President Trump made it easier for hunters to kill imperiled African elephants in Zimbabwe and Zambia and bring the trophies back to the U.S. He tweeted that he was putting the policy on “hold” after an overwhelming public backlash, but he hasn't taken any action toward this end. While Trump is threatening to move us backward, countries like China are marching forward. Effective December 31, 2017, China will close its ivory market.
At least 20,000 African elephants were killed for their ivory tusks in 2015 alone for jewelry, sculptures, trinkets and other items. If brutal elephant poaching continues at this rate, scientists predict that African forest elephants could be extinct in less than a decade.
Tell President Trump that you will fight back against any attempts by his administration to roll back the U.S. ivory ban and drive elephants closer to extinction.
Tell President Trump to uphold the U.S.'s landmark ivory ban and help save elephants from extinction.
President Donald Trump
Please uphold strong ivory regulations and save elephants
