California: Write an LTE and Make Your Voice Heard to Stop Neighborhood Drilling!

What is a letter to the editor (LTE)?

A letter to the editor is a short letter that anyone can write and submit to a news outlet. It can be in response to an article that the outlet has recently published, or it can be a proactive statement. Editors will select a handful for publication.

Background on the issue:

Right now, millions of Californians live within one mile of an active oil or gas well.

And these residents — many of them in low-income communities and communities of color — already face an increased risk of asthma, premature birth, fetal death, cancer, and other health problems.

Thankfully, California Governor Gavin Newsom just announced a proposed rule which would require a 3,200-foot setback buffer between new oil wells and places where people live, work, go to school, and congregate in California. And the rule would also help limit the impact of existing drilling on communities.

So, we need your help to keep the pressure on and to help get the word out to protect communities from neighborhood drilling.
