What is a letter to the editor (LTE)?
A letter to the editor is a short letter that anyone can write and submit to a news outlet. It can be in response to an article that the outlet has recently published, or it can be a proactive statement. Editors will select a handful for publication.
Background on the issue:
Right now, nearly 7.5 million Californians live within one mile of an active oil or gas well.
And these residents — many of them in low-income communities and communities of color — already face an increased risk of asthma, premature births, high-risk pregnancies, cancer, and other health problems.
California state leaders have committed to enacting policies to protect the health and safety of communities from oil and gas drilling.
But they’ve already delayed this critical rulemaking for months … and we can’t wait any longer for action!
CA officials MUST establish a minimum 2,500-foot health and safety zone between oil and gas drilling and our homes, schools, and hospitals immediately.
So, we need your help to keep the pressure on and to help get the word out.
