Tell President Biden that Protecting U.S. Lands, Waters, and Ocean Can’t Wait

We are living with rapidly accelerating climate change, a biodiversity crisis that threatens more than one million wildlife species with extinction, and air and water pollution that burdens millions of Americans. We need bold action and we need it now.

To help address these overlapping crises, President Biden has committed to protecting at least 30 percent of our lands, waters, and ocean by 2030.

This “30x30” plan will preserve natural places that filter out pollution so that we can breathe clean air and drink clean water, help prevent mass wildlife extinctions, fight climate change and protect us from its worst effects, and ensure that all Americans — no matter their economic status, race, or ethnicity — have access to nature and open space.

Sign NRDC’s petition asking President Biden to follow through on his promise and act quickly to protect 30 percent of U.S. lands, waters, and ocean by 2030.

Please act now to protect 30 percent of lands, waters, and ocean by 2030

Dear President Biden:

Thank you for your executive order promising to protect 30 percent of U.S. lands and inland waters and 30 percent of our ocean by 2030. To ensure that the U.S. on a path to meeting its 30x30 goals, the work must get off the ground as soon as possible.

30x30 is a bold plan that will help slow the alarming loss of nature, fight the global climate crisis, and filter out pollution so that we can breathe clean air and drink clean water. It will also ensure that all Americans -- no matter their economic status, race, or ethnicity -- have access to nature and open space.

30x30 is a global initiative, and for it to succeed, Indigenous voices everwhere must be included in the decision-making process. They have for millennia stewarded the land that countries are now rushing to protect -- and yet they are often deprived of the ability to shape outcomes here at home and during international conservation discussions.

Please act quickly to conserve 30 percent of U.S. lands, waters, and ocean while advocating for 30x30 abroad and the rights of Indigenous Peoples to have a meaningful say in this critical movement.
