Pledge To “Wipe Right”: Use Recycled Toilet Paper

Toilet paper has a major negative impact on our forests, our environment, and our climate.

Too many toilet paper brands use 100% virgin forest fiber that often comes from clear-cut ancient trees and old-growth forests like Canada's majestic boreal forest. And these forests are critical to meeting the world’s carbon pollution reduction goals and avoiding catastrophic climate change. More than 1 million acres of this carbon-storing boreal forest is clear-cut each year — a threat to Indigenous communities, iconic boreal caribou, and other wildlife, in part to make toilet paper.

One way we can help stop this destruction is to switch over to recycled toilet paper! By pledging to “wipe right” and buy toilet paper made from recycled materials, you can help save trees and reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

Will you help us reach our goal of 100,000 pledges? After you take the pledge, NRDC will send you important information, resources, and tips that will help you become a more conscious toilet paper consumer >>

In the fight to protect our environment and our forests, and to fight climate change, toilet paper has a monumental detrimental impact. One way we can help stop the destruction of the old-growth, carbon-storing boreal forest is to switch over to recycled toilet paper.

By pledging to “wipe right”, each wipe you take can help save trees and reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

So, will you pledge to “Wipe Right”?

As a conscious toilet paper consumer, I pledge to:

  • Continue the fight to protect our environment and our forests by purchasing and using toilet paper made from recycled or other sustainable materials
  • Share information about sustainable toilet paper brands and ways consumers can minimize the impact of their toilet paper purchases
  • Look for ways to avoid using other forest — and climate-harming tissue products
  • Encourage toilet paper manufacturers that don’t provide sustainable toilet paper options to improve their practices
